Welcome to the middle lands
It's 2052. Sergeant Juanita Carbajal of the Columbia Police Department in Missouri is assigned the job of tracking down the latest incarnation of Elvis Presley who is haunting the local countryside. Lincoln Koufax, a pop music reporter for Philadelphia-based tabloid Deep-Fried America News, has flown into the region to interview a woman claiming to have had an affair with The King. None of this should be that surprising to anyone. Out in the center of the country, belief in anything and everything is now the norm.
But there might be more going on than your standard rural legend. Sound Effect Infinity is a near-future paranormal mystery wrapped in as yet unanswered questions about the power of the human mind and puzzles about the true magic of loud guitar music — a story completely off the literary grid.

Chapter 1: Night Hunting
It was difficult to track, though, because individuals seemed to fluctuate in and out of it unpredictably. You sensed an intelligence fog built up around them. They were hyper aware of the present, almost like a version of mindfulness, but that awareness was only attached to a next step or two for the day like going to the store, having lunch, a third cup of coffee in the morning, screen watching, basic ways to catch a buzz and nudge dopamine levels up a few notches before bed. The joke we came up with way out in Philly is that a lot of people in the Middle Lands probably lost interest during sex because they couldn't remember they were hoping they might have an orgasm.
